Tank is a black and white lovable dog rescued by a driver who saw him abandoned in the middle of a country road. He was rescued and taken to a nearby house where the owner took him in. Tank was the perfect name for him. He became the delight of his new owners, and they soon discovered that he was full of love and affection for them. I recently read a story about Derek and his wife, a missionary couple who went to Africa. The story started when Derek responded to a knock on their front door. There stood a white woman and a black couple. The couple was holding a frail-looking six-month-old baby girl wrapped only in a dirty towel. Derek and his wife invited them in. “We came to your house because we heard that you take in children, and this little girl needs someone to take care of her.” Derek and his wife looked at each other and proceeded to explain that yes, they had adopted eight girls, but now they felt they were too old to adopt another child. The weary woman and couple asked if they could rest for thirty minutes because they were tired. They had been from house to house looking for someone to take the baby. After thirty minutes, they got up to leave. Just as they walked by Derek on their way to the door, Derek said the frail baby extended her arm and hand toward him as if to say but what about me? At that moment, Derek and his wife changed their minds. They adopted the little girl. Derek wrote later that he wouldn’t take anything for the privilege of adopting that little one that reached out to them. She is now a grown Christian woman with a family of her own. She brought much joy to the missionary couple. Isn’t it wonderful that our Creator shows us the way to reach out to others! I have to believe 2 Corinthians 1:3-4 that “God is the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God.” Written by Arlette Revells Photo Credit: Arlette |
