“Two years ago, there was a raging wildfire headed in the direction of our home,” twelve-year-old Elysiana wrote. “My parents were closely watching the fire and listening for evacuation instructions while gathering important treasures and documents. Ten of those treasures were me and my nine brothers and sisters!”
Elysiana wrote, “We had two German shepherd dogs, Sage and Rulan, a silver sable. They were a sister and a brother. As my family and I were fervently praying that the fire wouldn’t burn our house, something else happened that would need just as much prayer: Rulan disappeared.”
The story continued, “My dad took the older siblings with him and they looked along the State Park road behind our house. They also looked along the highway in front of our house. We notified the State Park officials. Nearly twenty-four hours later a lady working at the park saw Rulan cowering behind some trash cans. He growled at her and ran off: cold, frightened, and hungry. When Dad and the others heard about it, they took Rulan’s sister, Sage, out there hoping Rulan would pick up her scent and return. A little while later Rulan came bounding out of nowhere and joyously reunited himself with us.”
Not only did they find their beloved Rulan, but their house was also spared from the fire!
Have you ever been rescued by someone? I have. God saved me when I was lost and made sure I can get home. I can’t imagine a love so strong as God’s love for us, a love so strong that He “moved into the neighborhood” to rescue us.
For God loved the world so much that he gave his only Son so that anyone who believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life (John 3:16 TLB).
