Recently we visited a slice of paradise at Surfside Beach in South Carolina. It seemed that no matter what time of the day we sat under our umbrella on the beach, seagulls either strutted around on the warm sand around us or expertly flew above us, dipping in and out of the air currents. Although sometimes pesky, seagulls are a loyal breed of birds. Seagulls mate for life and fiercely protect their young. They have a solid social structure and faithfully work together to drive off predators from their breeding communities. Observers have noted that as many as a hundred gulls come together to drive a predator away. Have you experienced help from loyal friends as you journey through life? I have. Those times are high on my list of special memories. Like the shifting umbrella shadow on the sand beneath us, my life is full of seasons, twists and turns, up-and-downs. Wherever I am, it is good to know there are caring friends and sometimes strangers lending a helping hand or emotional support. In turn, I have the privilege of standing with others, no matter what their season of life may be. Encouraging and loving one another brings fulfillment and purpose into our lives. Friendship and love are close to the heart of God. He is our teacher, and He never changes like the shifting shadow under the umbrella! Whatever is good and perfect is a gift coming down to us from God our Father, who created all the lights in the heavens. He never changes or casts a shifting shadow (James 1:17). by Arlette Revells |
