Tarquin is a nineteen pound rescued cat with crinkled ears. Sarah, a friend of mine, sent me pictures of Tarquin and said, “We do not know his origin. The woman who rescued him, after watching him outside in the cold and heat and rain and snow for three years, said she could not wait any longer and brought him to me.” Sarah continued, “The woman couldn’t care for him and asked if I could find a home for the ‘little’ creature. Of course, I couldn’t say no.”
Tarquin was checked out by a vet, and then Sarah wrote a friend about the special needs kitty that needed a home. Sarah said, “My friend knew when she read the email that he was hers! When I met her with Tarquin, she responded with an ear-to-ear grin. I knew he was hers! The feral cat went home with Sarah’s friend, and the rest is history! His life started anew. His new owner named him Tarquin Silver Thomas. She calls him Tarq for short. He adjusted quickly to love and his new home. He was no longer on the outside looking in. His life got larger than he was!
Are you living large? This question is not from a physical perspective but a spiritual perspective. I confess, some days I’m living “small,” and other days I’m living “large.” My living small days happen when I allow my day to take charge of me rather than taking charge of my day. Even my thoughts and attitudes are affected. I obsess over the things I need to get done, and any interruptions turn on the faucet of frustration. I wonder how many big moments have I missed because I’m too busy to notice.
My living large days begin different from my living small days. Living large days start with “for God only” moments in which I ask God to help me prioritize my to-do list, to bring my day in line with what is important to Him. Taking the time to be aware of God’s presence opens the door to peace and confidence as I journey through my day. It’s interesting; I seem to get more accomplished on those days; I’m more present in my relationships and experiences. And I welcome those divine appointments that I didn’t know about when I made my to-do list.
Jesus said, in John 10:10, that the enemy comes to steal, kill, and destroy, but He wants us to live life in the fullest possible way.
