One little birdie was sitting in a tree until it fell, looked around, and its mother could not be found. As a young girl, running an errand, I was blissfully walking under the summer trees that lined the road when I stopped and noticed the sound of a faint chirp. My head turned to find the origin of the sweet but distressed sound, and I saw a little creature crouched in the middle of the street. I was surprised to see it all alone and searched for the mother who was nowhere in sight. At that moment, I realized that I could not leave it in harm’s way, but at the same time, I wasn’t quite sure what to do.
I felt as alone and powerless as the little bird and wanted the guidance of wiser authority. At that moment, I thought about how the bird might be feeling—lost, alone, scared. I realized that I was the bird’s protector. So, I quickly held out my hand and signaled moving cars to stop. A kind stranger gave me a bag to carefully scoop the bird up and place it safely on the sidewalk. Looking back, I’ve wondered can God really use me? Yes! I’ve learned that God calls us to do greater things than we can even imagine ourselves to do! And, sometimes these opportunities come along when we least expect them. I’ve learned that God can qualify the unqualified, and through Him, we can carry out His purpose, helping others. God loves and cares for those who are lost, alone, and helpless. He scoops us up into His strong, mighty arms and carries us to safety. He invites us to new life through His Son. Isaiah 41:10 tells us: So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous hand.
